Getting Started
Florida's first legal syringe services program, opened December 2016 through the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine with Jackson Health System, named for the state's Infectious Disease Elimination Act. Exchanges up to 10,000 syringes weekly across 3 fixed and 5 mobile sites countywide. Also offers rapid HIV/Hep C testing, PrEP linkage, and Narcan distribution.

About This Agency
With the premise of providing new syringes in exchange for used ones, the IDEA Miami syringe services program (SSP) envisions health equity with a mission in increasing access to the tools necessary to keep people healthy, especially those who are most vulnerable. Operating within the University of Miami, the IDEA Miami SSP opened in December 2016 as the first legal SSP in the state of Florida. Besides its primary function of providing new syringes in exchange for used ones, the IDEA hosts many auxiliary harm reduction services to reduce the spread of HIV, Hepatitis C, and other blood-borne diseases.
